I began helping my friend at Nylon Mexico by contributing articles. It progressed to me setting up photo shoots and as finding photographers and writers for articles and fashion shots. My friend then started a magazine called Panico which I have been helping with as well.
Evan's Work: Promoting Seoul
While living in Seoul I have helped Seoul Fashion Week bring over journalists from overseas to cover fashion week. This included my now good friend Tony Solis (head photo editor for Nylon Mexico, and Panico).
Working with the GM of W Hotel Seoul on planning a fashion show and after party for next season with a designer from New York.
I became good friends with the owner of Dazed Korea and the Editor Chief. I organized a famous dutch photographer and friend to come over and shoot a famous K-Pop singer from the Wondergirls for an issue they did in October.
They have also used me to help pitch proposals for projects in London with Korean fashion companies wanting to expand into Europe.

Evan's Work: Dazed and Confused U.K.
Writing and taking photos for Dazed was challenging because I would have to seek out my own interviews and articles that stayed in-line with the Dazed vision. One artist I found and interviewed was chosen as the top 10 photographers of the year last year.
Other accomplishments included consistently having the most viewed articles on Dazed Digital. As well as the contacts I made from other photographers and writers around the world.

Evan's Work: 2006-2010
I really wanted to do a skateboard fiction book written by someone who actually skateboarded. The stats on skateboarders in North America and my book sales showed there was a huge market for this type of book. My publisher did not want to expand, so I got a contract with the distribution company and started my own publishing company. I came out with three more books, my first was a fiction book targeted at 9th grade students.
Evan's Work: 2004 Signed a book deal
I got a book contract with a publishing company from San Diego. It was for an instructional skateboarding book. I was responsible for hiring a photographer to capture the tricks, I wrote and performed the tricks.
The average authors first book sells approximately 8,000 total. My first book, before it went to print had orders from Scholastic Book Fair for 15,000 copies. I went on to write 3 books with Tracks Publishing and became the highest selling skateboard instructional author. In the first two years we had sold over 100,000 copies.

Evan's Work: 2002-2004 MA Degree
I went to grad school in L.A. so I could pursue professional skateboarding. Vans didn't want to pay for the lawyer to get my visa because it would take too long. Instead I got a student visa and did a two year MA degree.
Evan's Role for Modular Online
My role for Modular Online Magazine:
1) Find skilled writers and photographers to contribute articles Monday-Friday of each month.
2) Make sure writers and photographers understand the vision and style of Modular Online.
3) Build good relations with our contributors so that we maintain a solid group of contributors.
4) Network and build relationships with key sources: Designers, Gallery Owners, Brands, Agents, and Artists. This will be important when commissioning articles on up-and-coming events.
We also want to be the first one's contacted when something culturally relevant is going to be released so that we can be the first ones to cover it.
5) Making sure each article that goes up fits with the vision and style of Modular.
6) Using contacts with friends who work for magazines to help promote the website.

Modular: Contributors
The goal of the online magazine should be to create a huge database of good writers and photographers that are submitting articles on a daily basis.
I feel Dazed in the past had really good editors, especially a woman named Susie Bubbles who was always appreciative of pitches, and thankful and kind to the writers. She no longer works at Dazed.
Since then they got a new editor who often accepts pitches and then decides not to publish them for one reason or another. This has caused a drastic decline in contributors.

Music: In The Studio: Modular Artists
This type of article would be set about 6 months before a band releases an album. It would be a good way to keep people interested between albums and expecting for a new album to be released.
There could be a short interview with the band about the direction of the album and inspiration.
This is a photo I shot for an interview with Canyons while working on their new album when I was in Australia a while ago.

Music: On Tour
Terry Richardson just spent a week with Lady Gaga photographing backstage and behind the scenes at her concerts in Japan and Seoul.
